Mwanzo Mzuri is a three-year project which aims at ensuring that young Tanzanians are enrolled in high quality and safe pre-primary education in order to improve these children's school readiness and support them to reach their full potential. To inform the Mwanzo Mzuri intervention, the current study assessed the existing teaching and learning conditions and their implication on school readiness and learning outcomes in pre-primary schools in Tanzania. Specifically, the study focused on analysing enrolment trends for the past three years by gender, disability status, geographical location and age; assessing the extent to which the teaching and learning conditions constrain or support school readiness and learning outcomes of children aged 0-6 years; examining the status of teacher-parent collaboration and their implications on children's quality early education; and, examining pre-primary teachers' awareness of classroom management skills and child-centred approach in ECE.
