In 2018, with assistance from the French Development Agency (AFD), IIEP-Pôle de Dakar launched a programme to support education quality management in sub-Saharan Africa. What practices help children learn? To answer this question, the programme adopts a unique approach, considering quality from a quality-management perspective. This approach relies on the observation of solutions currently used in education systems in order to identify promising practices that promote learning. The first results of the programme’s analytical phase are presented in this issue dedicated to the quality of education. There are various leads for improving quality: promotion of new pedagogical practices, decentralization of information systems, and community involvement in schools.
